Uzbekistan Joins EURAMET Activities

Uzbekistan’s National Metrology Institute (UzNIM), under the Agency for Technical Regulation, is now the sole Liaison Organisation from Central Asia to participate in EURAMET’s activities as an associated member. This was announced in a resolution.

This decision was unanimously approved by all members at the 19th EURAMET (European Association of National Metrology Institutes) General Assembly, held in Berlin, Germany, in June 2025. UzNIM’s active international cooperation and its leading role in the region were specifically acknowledged.

Uzbekistan’s Participation in EURAMET

The Main Significance

Uzbekistan now has direct access to the European metrology network. UzNIM will be able to fully participate in official platforms, meetings, and projects of EURAMET. As the only partner from Central Asia, this confirms Uzbekistan’s leading role in the field of metrology in the region.

What are the Benefits?

  • Ability to Compare Standards: Uzbekistan’s national standards can now be officially compared with those of European countries. This ensures full traceability to the SI system.
  • Scientific and Technical Collaboration: There will be an opportunity to participate in joint research and projects within the framework of EMPIR (European Partnership on Metrology).
  • Enhancing Staff Potential: UzNIM specialists will gain access to training, internships, and professional development programs in European countries.
  • Supporting Industry and Science: High-accuracy measurements will enable improved quality in local production and help achieve international credibility for the certification of export goods.
  • Boosting National Prestige: Uzbekistan’s reputation in the field of metrology on the international stage will be enhanced, as the country will participate in EURAMET on behalf of the entire Central Asian region.

The inclusion of the National Metrology Institute of Uzbekistan in EURAMET’s network gives our country the opportunity to:

  • Directly participate in international comparisons of national standards with European countries.
  • Actively engage in joint projects within scientific research programs.
  • Access programs for enhancing staff qualifications and technical potential.

Currently, the institute is actively involved in two comparison projects within EURAMET in the fields of photometry and radiometry: EURAMET.PR-K5.2022 and EURAMET.PR-K3.2020.
