At the ninth plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Law “On the Accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the International Metric Convention” was reviewed and approved by senators.
The adoption of this law will serve to develop the national quality infrastructure in accordance with international standards and strengthen international cooperation in the field of metrology.
This step is being implemented within the framework of the “Uzbekistan – 2030” Strategy and is aimed at improving the country’s position in the Global Quality Infrastructure Index (GQII).
By becoming a full member of the Metric Convention, Uzbekistan will gain the right to:
🟣 Participate in the activities of the Bureau and consultative committees,
🟣 Purchase valuable platinum-iridium standards at discounted rates,
🟣 Calibrate national measurement standards free of charge at international laboratories,
🟣 Send metrology specialists for internships and training,
🟣 Vote at the CGPM (General Conference on Weights and Measures) meetings.
This will enable the country to save up to $150,000 annually on calibration costs, eliminate international technical barriers, and boost export potential. Uzbekistan’s active accession to international organizations contributes to national economic stability and the well-being of its people.
