From the history of the State Enterprise “Uzbek National Institute of Metrology”
The history of the State Enterprise “Uzbek National Institute of Metrology” begins on April 18, 1923, when, by order of the Council of People’s Commissars of the Turkestan Republic, the “Regulation on Weights and Measures” was approved and the Turkestan Bureau of Weights and Measures was created under the Committee for the Regulation of Internal Trade.
In the city of Kokand, a Verification Tent of trade measures and weights was created, the area of operation of which was the entire Turkestan Republic. In 1924, the first laboratory of state supervision of standards and measuring instruments (LSS) was created.
In 1924, the Verification Tent was renamed the Central Asian Chamber of Weights and Measures, and became the ancestor of metrological services in the Kyrgyz, Tajik and Turkmen republics. In March 1930, the Committee for Standardization was formed under the Council of People’s Commissars of the Uzbek SSR and in 1931 it was merged with the Chamber of Weights and Measures.
In the postwar years, State Control Laboratories (SCL) were established in each regional center, the work of which was directed by an authorized representative of the Committee for Measures and Measuring Instruments under the Council of Ministers of the Uzbek SSR.
In 1966, the SCL was transformed into laboratories for state supervision of standards and measuring technology. The Uzbek Republican Laboratory of State Supervision of Standards and Measuring Equipment (UzRLSS) was organized in Tashkent.
In 1979, UzRLSS was transformed into the Uzbek Center for Standardization and Metrology (UzCSM).
In 1992, UzCSM was transformed into the Uzbek State Center for Standardization, Metrology and Certification under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Uzgosstandart).
By the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated October 3, 2002 №342 “On measures to improve the system of standardization, metrology and certification”, the Republican Center for the provision of metrological services of the agency “Uzstandard” was created.
According to the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On measures to improve the activities of the Uzbek Agency for Standardization, Metrology and Certification” № PP-2935 dated April 28, 2017 on the basis of the existing State Institution “Center for National Standards”, State Enterprise “Center for the provision of metrological services” and metrological Subdivisions of the State Institution “Research Institute of Standardization, Metrology and Certification”, the State Enterprise “Uzbek National Institute of Metrology” (SE “UzNIM”) was established.
